Expanding Equitable Care

Taking on the Root Causes

Launched in 2021, the Connecting Communities program finds innovative ways to link major institutions and their communities in ways that nurture and promote health equity for children, especially those who may already be receiving medical care or living with a serious illness.

In its initial Connecting Communities programming, Rite Aid Healthy Futures is finding innovative ways to partner with children's hospitals to help kids and families before they reach emergency departments, operating rooms and therapy centers.

Funding supports hospitals with growing or established community strategies and initiatives that address the root causes that prevent underserved and vulnerable neighborhoods from achieving the health and wellness they deserve.

Healthier Together in Philadelphia

Dating back to its time as The Rite Aid Foundation, Rite Aid Healthy Futures has supported Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Healthier Together Initiative. The relationship started with funding for CHOP’s Community Asthma Prevention Program Plus (CAPP+), enough to repair 100 homes to eliminate triggers of childhood asthma. Now, a new grant commitment will support the expansion of CHOP’s Healthier Together Hunger Portfolio, increasing access to healthy foods, consistently, so that more families become food secure. With goals to distribute 36,000 pounds of food, draw more families into Food Pharmacy locations and expand educational garden spaces, the latest partnership will connect the Philadelphia community with even more resources to recognize a healthy future.
